Leisure Time
JM:: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Karen:: Labor detail 5 days a week, church once a week, and recreation twice a week. There were also other classes available for inmates who had longer sentences like career training and substance abuse classes.
JM:: Did you have regular access to the entertainment?
Karen:: Yes. There was one television for the whole dorm to share, which
I never watched TV, the noise level was always too loud to hear the TV.
JM:: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Karen:: Yes, the food was very fattening and recreation was only available twice a week.
JM:: How often did you get to go outside?
Karen:: Twice a week, for one hour at a time. Sometimes recreation was called when I would be out working my labor detail. There were a few times depending on which deputy was on duty, that they would let the inmate workers go to recreation after returning back to the cell from work. I thought that was nice of the deputies that did that.
JM:: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Karen:: Yes. They were held once a week, and very helpful and uplifting.
